Turnip is violet-white coloured vegetable shaped exactly like onion (spherical). It belongs to family Brassicaceae. Botanical name for Turnip is Brassica rapa and known as shalgam in Hindi. It is produced underground and is considered as root. Taste is pretty much like potato or sometimes bitter but is a healthy vegetable.
